Rather than have customers continue to window shop their retail stores and then go home and buy the same product online, giant retailer Target has announced that they will price-match all of the top on-line retailers so that customers can get the same price break by purchasing the item in-store at Target. The select online retailers whose prices will be matched include BestBuy.com, Walmart.com, ToysRUs.com and Amazon.com. In order to get the same price offered by an online retailer, the customer will simply have to go to the Target Customer Service Desk showing proof of an online price so that Target can offer the customer the same great deal. The new Price Matching policy is the latest in a series of pricing efforts offered by Target to avoid having customers leave stores without purchasing the item they came in to investigate because they found a better deal from a major online retailer.

Homeland Security is urging web users to disable their Oracle Corp’s Java software. Security experts are amplifying warnings to millions of business owners and consumers based on prior warnings.

Unfortunately hackers have figured out how to take advantage of Java by using it to install malicious software. This malicious software allows them to commit crimes ranging from taking infected computers and making them apart of a ad-hoc network of other computers, which in turn can attack websites. Not only are hackers bringing havoc to website owners, they are also creating ways to commit identity theft.

Homeland Security has yet to offer a solution to this problem, and continues to address this issue on an on going bases. The only thing that has been suggested by Homeland Security is the disabling of the Java application and or software. The issuance of a warning was given on Friday, but Oracle has yet to respond.

In this case, she is being sued, along with Owl City’s Adam Young and two other writers, by an Alabama-based singer named Allyson Nichole Burnett. The latter is claiming that the city “Good Time” which features Jepsen and Owl City, copies what she calls a “unique vocal motif” from her 2010 song “Ah, It’s a Love Song”.

Burnett’s lawsuit even goes on to claim that she has suffered from “emotional and psychological damage” over the whole issue because now fans are coming up to her and asking her why she copied the song.

It seems as though Burnett wants to collect royalties from the hit song and claims that both her song and the Owl City/Jepsen hit have a pop vibe that is catchy and sticks to its audience.

Discovery of Mermaid Skeleton Was Staged

The alleged discovery of a mermaid skeleton on a beach in Washington State as reported by a recent special documentary airing on the Discovery Channel confused many viewers into believing that a real mermaid skeleton had been found.

The special’s mission was to explore the myth and lore surrounding mermaids, sea creatures that combine both the body of an alluring maiden on the top half and a fish half in place of human legs.

Officials at the network were quick to assert that their so-called mermaid skeleton discovery was staged for the purpose of inciting speculation about the existence of mermaids but was in no way meant to allege that scientific evidence had been found to prove mermaids exist.

Thousands of people in America whose computers were infected over a year ago with a computer virus are at risk of running loosing internet connection on the Monday.

At 12:01 am EDT (1601 GMT) on Monday, the FBI plans to shut down internet servers installed as a temporary security system so that infected computers could access the Internet over the past eight months.

The court order obtained by the FBI to keep the servers running already expired and was not renewed.

The problem began when international hackers put a misleading advertisement online to take control of more than 570,000 infected computers worldwide.

The virus, which changes the parameters involving domain names and IP address, blocks the updates of anti-virus systems.

When the FBI went in search of criminals at the end of last year, officials warned that if turned off malicious servers used to control computers, all the victims would will their Internet service.

In an unusual move, the FBI hired a private company to install two web servers that replaced the DNS information so infection machines would remain online.

The FBI got a private company that installed the Web site http://www.dcwg.org where computer users can check if your computer is infected and find links to other computer security companies to find a solution to the problem.

From the beginning, most of the victims knew their computers were infected, but the malware has probably slowed your internet browsing and have disabled your antivirus software, which makes them more vulnerable their devices.

Many people who use computers do not fully understand the complexity of their machines, and that some do not trust the government.

In addition to computers of individual users, about 50 Fortune 500 companies are still infected, Grasso said.

Other Internet providers decided to simply wait for their phone calls for assistance.

By Monday, if you have no access to the internet, contact your local internet service provide (ISP).

Apple Announces New Operating Systems: iOS 6 and Mountain Lion

On Monday June 11, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced several new products at the WWDC conference in San Francisco. Several of them, however, have already been leaked in various press releases over the last few months. Those that haven’t come at no real surprise to Apple fans, but still shows the boldness of the industry giant.

Mountain Lion was one of the announcements that have been previously revealed, although many more of the specifics have been brought to light. In an effort to compete with similar software found with Microsoft support, Mountain Lion will have dictation available in lieu of typing.

Cook also announced the new mobile operating system, iOS 6. Through the update, Siri receives an expansion in language support and is to be available on the iPad as well. In what has been regarded as another bold move, Apple has teamed up with numerous car companies to provide dashboard integration with Siri and other products.

The AP has been reporting Live from the event:

11:54 a.m.
CEO Tim Cook ends the presentation by touting the company’s ability to deliver on hardware, software and services.
___
11:51 a.m.
Apple says its mobile devices will get a new operating system, iOS 6, this fall. It will support iPhones released since 2009, as well as last year’s and this year’s iPad models. It will also work with newer iPod Touch devices.
The update will be free, though some features won’t be available on all devices. The iOS 6 software will sport more than 200 new features.
___
11:47 a.m.
Apple’s mobile devices will have a mapping program built in-house.
In the past, Apple has given prominent billing to Google Inc.’s mapping app. But the two companies have increasingly become rivals as people buy more devices running Google’s Android operating system.
Apple’s map program will be integrated with Siri so that you can ask questions.
It will also include “flyover” images taken by helicopters hired by the company to fly over major cities. Google said last week it’s sending its own planes to produce similar images. Apple showed images of the Sydney Opera House and the Transamerica building in San Francisco as part of its demo.
___
11:35 a.m.
Don’t want to be disturbed?
Apple’s new software for iPhones gives you more options for preventing messages and text notifications from disturbing you at night, for instance.
You can control how and when you get back to people. If you can’t call someone back right away, you can set a reminder to call that person back later or have a text message sent directly to the caller.
There’s a “call when you leave” feature that reminds you to call back when you are leaving a building and office. The phone can detect when you are leaving.
___
11:31 a.m.
Apple’s iOS 6 software will have better integration with Facebook. The idea is you enter your password just once, and you can post to Facebook from a variety of apps. You can also post about websites directly from Apple’s Safari browser.

Apple Annoucement June 2012 AT WWDC, New iOs 6 And More

Facebook will be integrated with Apple’s online app store so that you can declare you “like” specific apps there, as well as songs and movies in iTunes.
Events in Facebook’s calendar and birthdays of Facebook friends will also appear on your phone’s calendar.
___
11:26 a.m.
Apple says iOS 6 will have enhancements to Siri, a virtual assistant that interprets voice commands and talks back to the user.
Since Siri was introduced in October with the iPhone 4S, Siri has been “studying up and learning a lot more,” says Scott Forstall, Apple’s senior vice president for iPhone software.
He demonstrated that by having Siri tell whether LeBron James or Kobe Bryant is the taller basketball player. Siri replies, “LeBron James appears to be slightly taller” as the cards of both players are displayed on the screen.
Apple says it is partnering with Yelp so that Siri can include ratings and prices of restaurants when you ask Siri for places to eat. The company is also partnering with OpenTable to make reservations.
Siri has also learned more about movies.
Siri will now be available in more languages and more countries. It is also coming to the iPad for the first time.
___
11:10 a.m.
The new operating system for Apple’s Mac computers promises better integration with social networks.
Apple says the upcoming Mac OS X 10.8 “Mountain Lion” operating system has built-in features to facilitate sharing on Twitter and Flickr. For instance, you’ll get notifications directly from Twitter when you get a direct message or a mention on Twitter.
There’s also a “Power Nap” feature that keeps your Mac up to date even while it’s in power-saving “sleep” mode. It will get your emails, back up your files and download software updates automatically.
Mountain Lion will be available next month and will cost $19.99 — $10 cheaper than what the current system, Lion, costs.
Those buying the MacBook models announced Monday will get the upgrade for free when it’s available. Those models will ship with the Lion version initially.
___
10:52 a.m.
The new Mountain Lion system narrows the gap between the PC and phone software packages, making Mac personal computers work more like iPhones.
There’s little surprise. Apple already demonstrated most of the features of Mountain Lion in February and said it will go on sale late this summer. Developers are already able to download a version of the software.
Among the features:
— A new Messages app, copied from Apple’s mobile operating system, will replace iChat.
— Mountain Lion will be integrated with iCloud, the new Internet storage service designed for the mobile devices.
— The software will bring dictation to Mac computers, essentially allowing you to type as you talk.
___
10:45 a.m.
Apple announces a next-generation MacBook Pro model that is less than an inch thick while closed — about as thin as the MacBook Air. It will have a sharper display, akin to what the iPhone and the iPad now have.
Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, calls it “the most amazing computer we have ever made.”
The “next-generation” model will have a 15.4-inch diagonal display. It will have processors from Intel Corp. and Nvidia Corp. and promises up to 7 hours of battery life.
The other models announced earlier Monday are largely updates to current models with more memory and better processors. The older models won’t sport the sharper “Retina Display” feature of Apple’s newer devices.
The “next-generation” model will be 0.71 inch thick, compared with 0.95 inches for the updated models. The weight of the new model is 4.46 pounds.
The new model will start at $2,199 and will start shipping Monday.
___
Sprint is poised to join other providers of cellular service by offering a prepaid option for the popular iPhone.

While there have been prepaid models of the Android smart phone that have been commercially available for quite some time, this marks the first time that Apple’s iconic smart phone will be available without a contract.

With the lasting popularity of the iPhone, this decision will offer the chance for fans of the device to make use of it without the need of a long term contract.

Lower cost and more options have been responsible for an explosion in high end pre paid smart phone options. Customers who wish to make use off all the features of a top of the smart phone are able to do so without a long term commitment.

Sprint’s decision to offer the iPhone without a contract will no doubt result in increased sales of the popular device.

Sprint shares closed up 2 cents at $2.74 on the New York Stock Exchange.

Great Pacific Garbage Patch, A Lingering Reminder Of The Tsunami

Recently, a Japanese dock washed up on a California beach. The casualty of Japan’s horrific tsunami has many fearing that their summer beach vacation will be impacted by flotsam and debris from last year’s biggest natural disaster.

In actuality, families looking forward to a summer vacation at the beach have more to worry about than tsunami debris. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is just that, a giant clump of man-made trash floating in the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean.

Most of the trash is plastic products that does not biodegrade. The Pacific Garbage Patch actually has two parts, and both are approximately the size of Texas.

Debris from the Japanese tsunami is expected to dislodge some of the debris in the patch and send it straight to the Pacific Coast.

Predictions are that the garbage will continue to wash up on the beaches for the next several years. Experts advice beachgoers not to touch any beach debris that they do not recognize.

In dramatic news, a group of researchers at Oregon State University took a photograph of what is likely aGulo gulo luteus (California Wolverine) north of Lake Tahoe b/n Sierraville and Truckee in the National Forest of Tahoe.

This is the first confirmed discovery of a wolverine in California in ninety years. The final one was shot dead in the year 1922.

The real place was on Sagehen Street in the Sagehen Creek region at the Field Station of Sagehen Creek. This place is in the Experimental Forest of Sagehen Creek.

California wolverines seem to stay alive better at lower elevations as one moves north in California. In the direction to the south in the Sierra Nevada, they are available better at eight thousand to nine thousand feet if sightings are any guide. It is twenty miles north of Lake Tahoe and eight point four miles north of Truckee.

Sagehen Basin itself extends from five thousand nine hundred to eight thousand seven hundred feet. Even though much theory mentioning that California wolverines hatred the presence any human, the region where the photograph was taken is only one point five miles away from a main highway, which is Highway 89.
