Microsoft: Were Still Not Making a Phone
Jacksonville - As the success of the iPhone continues to grow, many people were wondering if Microsoft is going to be entering the mobile phone market. The company just recently confirmed that it has no intention of entering the mobile phone market. Instead, it intends to work with mobile phone makers to develop Windows based mobile phones that are in high demand. As company spokesman John Starkweather said recently, “Microsoft is not going into the phone hardware business and that it isn’t building a Zune-specific device. Instead, we are planning to work more closely with phone makers to get them making better Windows Mobile devices, particularly for Windows Mobile 6.5’s release later this year. We’re deepening our relationships with our hardware partners in order to create even better performing phones that are competitively priced, have the features people want, that are easy-to-use and just downright lust worthy.”
What this shows is a change of tactics that Microsoft is using. Gone are the days of trying to dominate the technology arena, instead they are opting to take a more laid back approach where they will offer support and the Windows based operating system to the different phone makers. While no one knows what the future will bring this new strategy could help the company make even more money by working closely with all the mobile phone manufacturers. Also, this prevents the company from being the target of legal challenges that they faced ten years ago with their Windows operating system.
