Bloom Energy Claims a New Fuel Cell Technology: UPDATE

Wednesday, 24 Feb 2010

On Wednesday Silicon Valley based startup company Bloom Energy unveiled its new technology which has been heavily hyped because of its ability to harness chemical reactions and create energy. The company has stated that their mission is to use their new technology to revolutionize the world’s use and sources of energy.

The main product developed by Bloom Energy is a generator that uses a newer form of fuel cell technology. Fuel cells technology allows fuel cells to rely on chemicals and chemical reactions to create energy. This method of developing energy is highly preferred to using fossil fuels because it is cleaner, more affordable, and more reliable than traditional fossil fuels.

While fuel cell technology had been widely researched over the past decade, most other development had used hydrogen to develop energy. This had proven to be difficult as hydrogen was more difficult to store and was much more dangerous than the technology used in Bloom’s development. Instead of Hydrogen, Bloom Energy uses a wide range of fuels to develop energy. These fuels include both natural gas and bio gas.

According to reports, Bloom Energy’s technology could have a wide variety of uses. It was estimated that one “Bloom Box” could be used to power over 100 households. Unfortunately, the cost is still high as each box would cost up to $800,000. Despite the cost, several major American businesses have agreed to use the technology to power at least a portion of their business. energy-bloom-box-power-home1Some of the users will include eBay and Federal Express.
