HP Cuts the Price of its TouchPad by $100 This Weekend
In an attempt to gain a piece of the rapidly growing tablet market, HP has decided to cut the price of its 16GB TouchPad device by $100 this weekend. With the new promotional price, the cost of the device will only be $399.99.
HP had already decided to temporarily drop the price of the TouchPad by $50 earlier this week in order to stimulate new demand. However, company executives decided to slash prices even further in order to compete with products that have already established themselves on the market.
Unlike most Android-powered devices, HP uses its own proprietary mobile operating system, WebOS, on its tablet computers. However, most consumers have remained hesitant to try the new tablet device, especially given the relative lack of apps for it.
This has become a serious problem for the company given the fact that the major player in the space, Apple, has an extremely large ecosystem of developers and programmers creating apps for its iPad device. Indeed, Apple controls more than 70 percent of the tablet market, while the various Android devices control much of the rest of the market.
HP is hoping to reverse those numbers by enticing consumers to give their product a try. For consumers who are interested, the sale will end on August 7.
