No Wii Price Cut Any Time Soon

Friday, 10 Apr 2009

Jacksonville - Even in one of the worst economies in the world since the early 1900’s, Nintendo does not have plans to lower any of their prices any time soon. For those looking to purchase the Nintendo game system, this basically means the Wii console stays priced at $249 in the United States. This comes even after the Wii is outsold by the PS2 in March.

The Wii’s popularity is due in part to the fact that the Nintendo Wii is used by the consumer who is looking for good wholesome gaming fun opposed to intense technical gaming. The Wii console and games are geared to a larger demographic of consumer allowing for a much larger buying audience and greater returns.

Satoru Iwata, the President of Nintendo recently said in a press conference, “The Wii is in the most unhealthy condition since it hit the Japanese market,”. He also said, “”The current condition in the Japanese market is not the one we want. A price cut in a difficult economy cannot really excite the market and drive up sales.” And he doesn’t think a price cut is a good option for Nintendo at the moment.
