Utah buzzing over Kevin Garn Cheryl Maher Scandal
While scandals involving politicians are nothing new, a recent scandal has the whole state of Utah buzzing. Kevin Garn, who is the state of Utah’s House majority leader, recently admitted that he paid a woman over $150,000 in cash to keep silent over an incident which occurred nearly 25 years ago.
The woman, who has been named as Cheryl Maher, allegedly bribed Garn in 2002 when he was running for Congress. According to sources, Garn allegedly had an encounter with Maher in 1985 in which the two were naked in a hot tub together. The problem with the situation was that Maher was only 15 years old at the time and Garn was 28 and married.
Garn and Maher met in 1985 when the 15 year old worked for Garn. The relationship between the two escalated greatly and eventually they found themselves naked together in a hot tub in Salt Lake City. Maher has stated that the incident scarred her severely and that ever since she has struggled with pills and alcohol addiction and mental health issues.
Garn publicly confirmed that both the 1985 incident and the attempted cover up took place. He stated that he was initially afraid of being publicly judged over the incident.
