Warner music videos removed from youtube
Jacksonville - In recent news, Warner Music Groups has ordered that all of its videos need to be pulled off of the YouTube. This decision was made after negotiations between Warner Music Groups and YouTube fell apart. Until a negotiation is reached, the videos that are owned by Warner Music Groups will not be allowed to be placed on the YouTube website.
YouTube has emerged as the most popular video-sharing website in the world. This website has everything from music to film clips to home movies, videos, and advertisements. The website is one of the most frequented in the world, and it has been in conversation with a number of media companies to gain permission to host videos of their product.
Warner Music Groups owns more than hundreds of thousands of videos, as well as the publishing rights to those that fall under the Warner/Chapell unit name. Thus, this decision has had quite an effect on those looking to see some of their favorite videos on YouTube. In fact, some report that Warner’s music labels have at least 21% of the US music market under their belt.
The negotiations have been going on for quite some time. Warner Music Groups reportedly was seeking revenue share from YouTube. This is because the website receives a high number of visitors throughout the day. Many other contracts or agreements are expected to come up in the future. Thus, this round of negotiations with Warner Music Groups is seen as quite important.
In a released statement about the decision, Warner Music Groups said the following: “We simply cannot accept the terms that fail to appropriately and fairly compensate recording artists, songwriters, labels and publishers for the value they provide.”
YouTube also released a statement on their blog and said: “Sometimes, if we can’t reach acceptable business terms, we must part ways with successful partners. For example, you may notice videos that contain music owned by Warner Music Group being blocked from the site.”
Many in the music industry do not consider online advertising fees all that significant. Still, Warner Music Groups has been frustrated with how little money they have received from the use of their videos through the YouTube website.
YouTube is owed by Google Inc. and has previously been able to negotiate a deal between them and Warner Music groups. In 2006, the agreement was signed that allowed Warner a percentage of revenue from advertisements as well as some other forms of royalty payments. However, Warner Music Groups has wanted to update this agreement.
Currently, it is unclear if the decision to remove the content was made jointly between both YouTube and Warner Music Groups or if it was the decision of Warner or the website. However, as of Saturday morning, the talks stalled and the videos were removed.
