MagicJack Unveils New Device To Make Free Cell Phone Calls
MagicJack has unveiled a new device that allows cell phones to be used for free over the internet. MagicJack has already sold over five million of its devices that allow traditional landline telephones to place calls for free over the internet. At the International Consumers Electronics Show, this new device that allows the same service for cell phones was unveiled.
The new device uses a piece of technology called a femtocell to connect any cell phone that uses GSM technology to a computer with a broadband connection. Most phones on the AT&T and T-Mobile networks use GSM. The cell phone can then be used without using a customer’s mobile plan minutes to make calls to anywhere in the United States or Canada. The device works the same as the original magicJack by utilizing VoIP technology that makes talking over the internet free of charge.
The new device is roughly the size of a deck of playing cards. It will go on sale in about four months for $40, the same price as the original magicJack. The device will come with a free year of service. Users will be charged $20 per year to use the service after the first year.

Magic Jack on the phone requires a bit of computer know-how and requires users to perform updates as they are not automatic. Also, if an xp user has multiple user accounts and the pc is automatically updated and does not start the account with MJ, the user has no phone until the program is started. MJ has its place in some situations, but for anyone running a pc with less than 1 gig of ram and a slower processor, good luck.
I have used majic jack for several years. I love it that I do not pay my overpriced local phone co anymore. Now I cant wait to give it to my cell phone company. Keep it up majic jack.
For the readers use common sense when reading the comments. The phone companys are worried about this type of technology reducing there revenue. I have seen crazy commens posted that say very negative things (almost the exact same post wordtrack wise on many sites???)….. I wonder who is behind these post …. really. Just use your common sense when reading the comments. Cant wait for the new MJ.
The idea of the majic jack original makes perfect sense. Replace your land line with cheap voip. But it seems to me that this device replaces your cell phone, but only in your house (you have to be close to the base station for it to work, right?). What’s the advantage of using a cell phone if you can only use it in your house?
Voip cell phones make more sense. They pick up wifi and run voip over it. Still not a perfect replacement for a cell, but for those who work in places with wifi but who walk around (like doctors) it makes good sense.
Grab the vaseline AT&T its my turn now
Brian is lying. I have had a magicjack for over a year now and it is a fantastic little device. It sets itself up, it DOES have automatic updates and I run it on an old Dell Latitude C610 laptop which has an old Pentium-3 CPU and 512MB of RAM. It even works perfectly with the laptop’s old USB v1.0 port! I don’t know why Brian would try to tell people such lies but I’m guessing that he’s a plant from the phone companies that we all know are crooked as hell. As I said, I use a DELL LATITUDE C610 with a PENTIUM-3 that was built in 2001! It only has 512MB of RAM and runs XP Professional. The computer itself is a bit slow running XP when it was originally designed for Win2000 but the magicjack works FLAWLESSLY!
I have used a magic jack for 3 years, initialy in a Dell P3. Two yrs ago I moved it over to a thin Client, set it in the basement and connected a wireless phone set.
I have clear, consistent phone service and have only rebooted the T/C twice in the time it has been in service
