Is AT&T ready for the Apple iPad?
Apple’s iPad has the world buzzing. After the debut of this exciting new technology, it was announced that AT&T will invest additional funds into its network to ensure that it can keep up with the latest advances in technology.
The cell phone provider has said that it will spend upwards of $2 billion dollars to update its network in the year 2010 so that it can keep up with such new products as Apple’s iPad.
This means upgrading wireless and backhaul networks so that the company can handle all of the traffic and use that such phones and gadgets may result in. The intended funds are more than any other company has committed.
To prepare, the company will also add roughly 2,000 cell sites to its network and will upgrade many of its existing towers and cites so that there are nearly three times as many fiber links than in the previous year.
AT&T also says that it will push its advancements so that it’s easy to upgrade to 4G wireless technology in the not so distant future. In fact, the group has plans to test such a 4G network in 2010 using LTE.
AT&T is currently the only operator in the US for Apple’s iPhone.
