Annie Lennox’s HIV T-Shirt Draws Curiosity

Last night, musician and activist Annie Lennox wore a HIV positive t-shirt when appearing on the Fox show American Idol Gives Back. Some people had been speculating that she was telling the world that she has been diagnosed with HIV but that is not the case. On Idol Gives Back, Lennox was filmed months ago visiting a young girl who was very ill and had HIV. The child was very thin and was born with HIV. Her mother had passed away due to the disease.

Lennox visited with her and saw that the young girl was finally getting the medication that she desperately needed to treat her disease. When they showed her returning months later the girl had gained weight and was much better medically. Lennox then sang a song with a montage of children who were suffering from HIV. She was wearing the shirt at this time to raise awareness that people especially pregnant mothers and young children need access to HIV medications.

Lennox has been a HIV/AIDS advocate for years. She was honored in 2009 and was given the Women of Peace Award for her efforts to help people afflicted with this disease. She wants every person to be able to live healthy and productive lives while suffering with the disease until a cure can be found.
