Did a Comet Hit Earth 12000 Years Ago?

A little over 12000 years ago there was a big change in the atmosphere of global cooling and 35 species that were all of a sudden extinct. There has been several theories as to why this happened but recently it has been suggested that a comet hit the Earth when nanodiamonds were found in the sediments from this time period that suggests an explosion or several explosions.
These teensy diamonds that were found happen only in very hot temperatures and pressures that usually come about from an explosion. These diamonds in the sediment were discovered in six sites from across the North America region.
A theory that was brought up for the first time last year suggests that a comet may have burst in the atmosphere and fallen down into our oceans which could have been the reason for the 1300 year cooling period that took place. This cooling period is what interrupted the warming out of the ice age, and it is still going on to this day.
This period is still not able to be explained today and based on the time period of these type diamonds being found from there is much more research that needs to be done before anything can be conclusively said. Many records from that time period need to be dug up and examined and hopefully linked to this new discovery.
