Jacksonville – Ebay-owned voice service Skype is now available for mobile users and iPhone users, with a free Skype download being made public on Tuesday at the CTIA’s Wireless Convention.

It will allow people to make free voice-to-voice calls using an internet-based wireless technology, but Skype calls can only be made while connected on wi-fi.

Calls to other Skype users will continue to be free, but charges will apply to those users that don’t yet use Skype.

The application also allows iPhone users to merge address books, so the need to program each address one at a time will be eliminated.

Blackberry is planning on releasing their own version of the Skype application in May, and Android applications should be following suit shortly thereafter.

iPod Touch users will also be able to utilize this technology, but a separate purchase of microphone and headset would be needed, according to computer magazine PC World.
