Get Your Game on for $100 on the PS2

New York – It has been almost 10 years since the Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) came on the marketplace and now for the cash strapped consumer the price tag has dropped below $100. The announcement arrives directly from a company blog maintained by the Director of Hardware Marketing, John Koller.
The PS2 is one of the most well recognized game consoles of all time and after its initial launch in Japan it became a worldwide success selling well over 140 million consoles. The game giant also sold over 50 million consoles in North America and was the first console to do so.
The price drop will go into effect on April 1. Before the price drop, the manufacturer suggested retail price was $130, with a new price tag of $99 it stands to reason that more individuals will purchase the console.
Even though the game system may have aged some the PS2 is has longevity. Sill selling steadily after almost a decade on the market the game system has a catalogue of almost 2,000 games to keep its fans entertained. New games expected to be added to the console including MLB ’09 and Guitar Hero Metallica. The PS2 also functions as a CD or DVD player.
The new price tag could help consumers remain aware of the PlayStation brand against the astounding sales of the Nintendo Wii. The PS2′s successor, the PlayStation 3 has so far been able to match the price tag or sheer number of consoles sold that the Wii boasts.
