Conficker worm remains underground
Jacksonville – Where is the worm? Computer owners around the world have been on edge about the possible carnage that may be caused by malicious hackers. As the countdown progressed toward the dreaded April 1st deadline forecasters spread the word to be on alert. Around the world people watched the clock in anticipation. But as dawn broke fears began to subside when it appeared that the ‘Conficker’ worm wouldn’t strike after all.
Although the immediate threat may have passed without fanfare we shouldn’t let down our guard. The virus is very real and has infected millions of computers so far. It is constantly updating itself to avoid detection while awaiting further instructions from its creator (whoever that may be). Microsoft Corporation has offered a $250.000 reward to anyone that can identify the source and stop this cyberspace plague.
Computer experts remind us not to let down our guard. Be sure that security software is active and all of its updates have been added. Never open questionable e-mails and change passwords frequently.
