Games Dominate iPhone Apps Store
Jacksonville – Games are dominating the iPhone App Store, according to a recent study by market research firm ComScore. Over 800 million applications have been downloaded since the introduction of the App Store. 12 of the 25 most downloaded iPhone applications were games, with one game alone being downloaded by over 32 percent of consumers who have browsed the App Store.
The success of this one downloadable game, Tap Tap Revenge, is showing software developers that there is a significant market share to be tapped with the iPhone. ComScore estimates that the overall number of customers downloading from the App Store will increase by 10% every month.
Major game developers are noticing the way games have dominated the iPhone App Store.
The iPhone may soon become a legitimate competitor for handheld mobile gaming devices like the PSP and Nintendo DS. The iPhone’s new v3.0 operating system was a big hit at the recent Game Developers’ Conference.
The operating system itself is one reason games may continue to dominate the iPhone App Store in the coming years. Its built-in peer-to-peer communication module makes it a natural fit for voice chatting during online gaming sessions.
The App Store’s convenient marketplace also helps sell games by making it easy for consumers to purchase and download the game instantly.
