Coming soon: Red light district and ratings for Second Life

Wednesday, 22 Apr 2009

Jacksonville – In a move to attract more mainstream users of Second Life and to regain popularity, Linden Labs announced on Wednesday that it will be adding mature content to a second continent in the Second Life realm.

There was a time when Second Life was seen as a new hip location for businesses to open up. There was a type of boom in Second Life when large companies like Dell rushed to build structures in the Second Life landscape. This however turned out to be a waste of time and money.

The CEO of Second Life has said that the decision was made based on feedback and requests from users of the game. Now both existing and future content that’s designated as adult will be moved to its own area of Second Life. Search results will also be filtered, meaning that searchs will return no results for anything with adult content.

To access the new adult section of Second Life users will be required to verify their account. To do this you’ll need to have payment information on file or use Linden Lab’s age verification solution that was produced by Aristotle.

A release candidate of version 1.23 will soon be available to Second Life users which will let users control maturity ratings for different areas of the game.
