Deal Twitterings for Apple
Jacksonville – With Twitter’s recent surge to success, it is inevitable that this little app that could would start to attract attention from mainstream internet companies. Over the last few weeks, talk has linked Twitter in deals with everyone from Google to Facebook to Microsoft.
The latest news, however, suggests that Twitter has even attracted the attention of Apple. In fact, one source suggests that Apple is nearing the end of talks to buy Twitter at a hefty price of $700 million. This sizable sum denotes just how lucrative Twitter would be under the umbrella of another company.
It is hard to say what gave Twitter its success, but the mobile application is a free service in which users can broadcast short messages, which are then received by other users who are following their account. From everyday folk to celebrities, Twittering seems to be the new ‘it’ thing in the mobile world, garnering an estimated 25 million users worldwide and even being used by the likes of Oprah. With all of this popularity, the sudden interest from mainstream companies is certainly understandable.
Apple has already been selling an application from its App Store to allow iPhone users to Twitter easily from their phones. However, some experts are uncertain how reliable the news of the Apple/Twitter talks may be, since the rumors surrounding the deal are not corroborated by many reliable sources.
The rumor suggests that if the deal is in fact in the works, Apple would hope to announce it in June.
