Google Enters e-book market
The world of technology is changing at an incredible pace, now more than any other time technology is having an effect on everyones daily lives.
One place where this can be seen is in the e book market, it use to be that e-books were a nice off shot of printed books but were not as main stream as they are now. As many publishers switch from print to e books the emerging market is expected to create a huge shift. Recent evidence of this shift taking place is when Google announced that they will be officially entering the e book market. This will place them in direct competition with Amazon.com which has had tremendous success with its e book reader Kindle.
However, Google’s approach is to offer an open platform where publishers can set their own price for e-books. Initially, this could mean higher prices for many books, but the company figures that by giving publishers this flexibility will allow them to place more titles online, effectively creating a tremendous shift from print books to e-books. While this sounds like a great strategy that Google has devised they still do not have an e book reader and do not appear to be in the process of creating one. This could cause many developers to develop different e book readers which can be used when visiting this portion of Google’s site.
What this shows is that there could be a major shift taking place with the way people read books. With Amazon.com having tremendous success with Kindle, Google is now seeing an opportunity to expand this market like never before, by giving publishers the ability to set their own prices on e books and enticing them to publish more e books. While there is no e book reader with Google you more than likely will find that there could be a series of free downloadable readers that you can use whenever visiting the site.
