Erin Andrews and the Video
The top searches on Google after the news came out concerning Erin Andrews was a little disheartening to many readers. The searches were blatant and to the point, “How can I see the Erin Andrews naked video,” Erin Andrews peephole video,” or some just goggled “Erin Andrews”. Have we reduced the violation of this reporter’s privacy simply to giving men an opportunity to see her in her most vulnerable situation?
Online, the rumors are rampant that possibly this whole thing was merely a publicity stunt. The story has been in the news every day. Online the searches for Erin have increased exponentially. People are talking about this story everywhere. Is it possible that it is a publicity stunt? Those that know Erin says no, she never wanted that type of publicity and did not need that kind of boost to her popularity.
ESPN seems to be supporting her by aggressively reporting on their plans to prosecute the perpetrator(s). Erin Andrews did not ask for this, and someone has to pay the price for putting this online. The legal implications of this situation may be historic. Many issues have to be addressed: the taping of the peephole video, uploading the video online, finally, and the ‘virtual issues’ of emailing, viewing, and posting this video in cyber space on the internet.
I don’t think we have heard the end of this story about Erin Andrews. In fact, this may just be the beginning of one of this year’s biggest news stories.
