A Rorschach Cheat Sheet on Wikipedia?

Friday, 31 Jul 2009

Has Wikipedia created a Rorschach Cheat Sheet on Wikipedia? According to the New York Times, Wikipedia has been placing the test on their website with the popular answers. The Rorschach Test is a psychological exam created by Swiss psychiatrist Hermann Rorschach. It is a series of 10 ink blot plates that tests a person’s mental perception. Wikipedia has posted copies of this test and the answers that go along with them.

Psychologists around the world have gone on record and stated that while there have been images of the test posted on the Internet before, Wikipedia is the first one to give actual popular answers. This would render the test meaningless due to the fact that it would not be able to properly evaluate a persons psychological condition.

Dr. James Heilman, an emergency room doctor from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, is the one responsible for posting the plates. He stated that he ‘wanted to raise the bar. One plate would be absurd…why not post all 10′. This is where the debate has exploded into a world wide discussion. Psychologists are fearing that one of the oldest psychological test in history is in jeopardy.

The main debate is that now the Rorschach Test and its answers are available online it could give an improper diagnosis. The test is used as pre-employment screening and is also used in military physicals.
