MMS iPhone Launch From AT&T
Late September 25, 2009, AT&T has enabled MMS (multimedia messaging service) for its iPhone customers in the United States. MMS is now available to customers who are using the 3G and 3GS models of iPhone. This service was enabled in June for iPhone customers in other countries with the promise of a late summer release in the United States. Though slightly behind schedule, AT&T sites the launch as a success.
Those affected received a text message from AT&T detailing update instructions. They also posted these instructions on their website. The process involved connecting the iPhone to a personal computer and retrieving the update from the Apple iTune application. After restarting the iPhone, users were able to send picture and video messages.
Excited US Apple iPhone users flocked to test out the new feature and initially flooded AT&T’s Facebook page with thousands of latency and failure complaints. It seems that now, AT&T has worked through the normal stresses of deployment and most customers are positive about the added ability to send picture and video messages from their Apple iPhones model 3G and 3GS. The original Apple iPhone can view these kinds of messages, but MMS services have still not been enabled.
