Canada Gets Google Street View Eh
Google Street View Now in Canada
Google maps now have street views of select cities in Canada.
As recently as this summer residents in the Canadian area of Nanaimo saw Google camera cars driving around the neighborhood. Now they are waiting to check out the photos on Google Street View.
This past Wednesday eleven cities in Canada were added to the Google websites Street View imaging services. These cities include Vancouver, Squamish and Whistler.
A spokes man from Google was unable to give dates as to exactly when other cities will be added. The service only became available on Wednesday to Canadians after months of discussion between Canadian federal politicians and privacy officials. Google street view has been available in the United States since May of 2007 and is very popular.
Many Canadians are concerned about privacy when it comes to having these street views on the web but Google states that there is automatic blurring technology in use that prevents any identification. This has not stopped the Canadians concerns though. Goggle blurs license plates and the faces of people captured in the photos.
While some residents are worried about privacy concerns other are expressing wonder at the fact that they are able to get 360-degree seamless views of their neighborhoods. It is an “upgrade” of the existing Google Map feature and is helpful for travelers and locals to get around and arrange meeting places with family and friends.
