Firefox Unblocks Microsoft Plugin

Monday, 19 Oct 2009

Mozilla has decided to unblock a Microsoft .Net plugin for Firefox, as the security scare ended in confusion.

Mozilla has disabled Microsoft’s extension,. NET Framework. Several users complained that it was not possible to uninstall the program before Microsoft make available a patch.

Mozilla said on its security blog. NET Framework was not an attack vector. However, Microsoft says that users of Firefox, not having installed the patch for Internet Explorer, could be exposed to multiple vulnerabilities.

“We received confirmation from Microsoft this evening that the Framework Assistant add-on is not a mechanism for exploiting the vulnerabilities detailed in the earlier post, so we’ve removed it from the blocklist,” notes Shaver. “As the blocklist update propagates to clients, the add-on should be re-enabled for users who had it previously enabled.”
