Ford’s Sync System Confirms Commitment to Customer Connectivity

Friday, 08 Jan 2010

Ford Motor Co. is reaffirming it’s commitment to keeping a competitive edge in the automotive industry. Ford CEO, Alan Mulally recently announced that the “MyTouch” interface, featuring turn-by-turn, voice-guided directions, will be standard on all new vehicles featuring the MyTouch and SYNC platforms.

First introduced at the 2007 CES, Ford SYNC is based on a Microsoft Auto platform which allows drivers and passengers to connect portable media devices to their vehicle. SYNC allows Ford customers to interact with these devices and other vehicle systems through voice command.

The MyTouch interface, presented during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on Thursday is the latest in Ford’s effort to create greater connectivity between driver and device. The MyTouch system, which features two 4.2 inch LCD screens, five-way button steering wheel controls and voice commands, is designed to interface seamlessly with the SYNC platform. The result of the voice command capability is a decrease in driver distraction while interfacing with his or her personal devices.

Ford’s survey of customers showed that 32 percent consider SYNC to be important to their decision to purchase. Mulally stated that the addition of in-car technology is helping Ford to sell cars.
