Google Docs Cloud Storage: Store Any File Type
Google has predicated big things for Google Docs in 2010. Its web-based word processor is already a viable alternative to the professional software packages thanks to some of the newest features. On the heels of that, Google Docs targets becoming a viable alternative for online file storage. Google will integrate the update into existing accounts over the next several weeks.
Google Docs cloud storage will allow users the ability to upload files of any type up to 250 megabytes in size at no cost. There is an overall capacity limit of 1 gigabyte for files in formats other than common documents, such as text documents, presentations, and spreadsheets. Viewing and editing will still be limited to those formats as well. Additional storage capacity for files not in Google Docs formats will be available at a cost of 25 cents per gigabyte per year.
Users awaiting the long-rumored but never officially announced online storage service Gdrive will likely be left disappointed by the news. Until the fabled Gdrive, expected by some to rival Windows SkyDrive in terms of capacity and exceed its features, is rolled out, SkyDrive is likely to remain king of the no-cost cloud storage hill with its free 25 gigabytes of storage.
