The Online Pope
Pope Benedict tells catholic priests to use the internet to spread God’s word.
Yesterday Pope Benedict told Catholic Priests they should embrace this technology to spread the word of God. However, he also warned them against being more technical than vocational. The Vatican has had a website for quite some time. Now the priests are being encouraged to use the technology to have a closer relationship with the faithful from further away.
Saturday as the pope gave his message, he was undoubtedly considering that the church needs to be prepared for World Communication Day, May 16. Pope Benedict encourages clergy to embrace the new digital media.
Some are calling this announcement Pope Benedict’s new commandment “go forth and blog”. The pope’s own usage of the internet has grown substantially over the past few years. … And how can they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach?…( Romans 10:11, 13-15) You can see how the internet can help the faithful to spread the word and achieve their calling. The internet has millions of users in millions of different places daily. Never before have clergy been able to reach so many people.
