Apple’s iSlate tablet computer unveiled as the iPad

Thursday, 28 Jan 2010

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has finally unveiled the iPad (formally known as the iSlate). This device is a basically a giant version of the Apple iPod crossed with a regular laptop, with all the features of a smartphone minus the phone.

Weighing in at a mere 1.5 pounds it is very portable. It has the screen measuring in at 9.7 inches. The battery life of the iPad is an impressive 10 hours. It comes equipped with iWorks which is comparable to the Microsoft Office series.

Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch devices have more than 140,000 applications in the company’s App Store to run on the handheld sets. Those same applications will work on the iPad.

You will be able to browse the web from almost anywhere, download iTunes and read eBooks.

Cell networks were initially meant for short calls. Apple has changed the way people use cell networks when the iPhone joined the game. People are using their smartphones longer, for more data-intensive functions and more frequently. Streaming video, seems to be a strong selling point of the iPad, but will it it be too much on the AT&T network, which is already under a tremendous amount of stress.

This new iPad is going to revolutionize the way you browse the internet. The portability of an iPod in a laptop is the next big thing for Apple. The press conference has unveiled the device and we now will sit back and watch the results.
