Xbox Live to Lose Life on Original Xbox
Xbox fans have been playing games online via Xbox Live since 2002, but those devoted players still playing original Xbox games will no longer be able to play them online as of April 15. Microsoft has decided to discontinue the Xbox Live service for the original Xbox and original Xbox games (even those played on Xbox 360). This will be disappointing to avid Halo and Halo 2 players, who will need to upgrade to Xbox 360 titles like Halo 3 or Halo 3: ODST to stay with their franchise.
While this may be a detriment to some players, the discontinuation is intended to promote changes to the Xbox Live services available in the future, which the original Xbox would not be compatible with. Marc Whitten, general manager of Xbox Live, encourages users who are directly impacted to watch for future correspondence about upcoming opportunities.
The Xbox Live team is keeping the specific details about changes under wraps for now. Whitten feels that 2010 will be a landmark year in gaming and home entertainment and hints at a partnering between the upcoming “Project Natal” (Microsoft’s Xbox 360 add-on peripheral that allows playing without ever touching a game controller) and Xbox Live.

guess I’m in no hurry to dust off the old X-Box classic…
