Opera Mini For iPhone

Wednesday, 10 Feb 2010

The Norwegian based Opera Software ASA has announced they will be releasing their Opera Mini browser in a version compatible with Apple’s iPhone. The company will be unveiling the application at an international tech conference taking place next week. The Opera browser has been a competitor for the Microsoft browsers since the late 90s. They have lost their foothold in the browser industry with the Mozilla Firefox boom.

Opera has not actually discussed this application with Apple but Opera spokeswoman Katrin Jaackson does not see why they would not allow their users freedom of browser choice. The current iphone default browser is the Apple developed Safari. The Opera Mini mobile browser is often the browser of choice because it can compress web sites quickly while using a mobile device. Users will use less bandwith and download seconds, which will ultimately save them money. The current Opera browser is free to use.

The announcement has already increased Opera’s shares by 2.5 percent so far. The official release date has not been disclosed yet. The latest version of the mobile browser will be on display at the 2010 Mobile World Conference in Barcelona, Spain. The conference is scheduled to run from February 15-18.
