Bloom Box-The Future of Alternative Energy?

Thursday, 25 Feb 2010

Alternative, clean energy technology can be compared to the Daytona 500. There are literally hundreds of competitors in the race to create an environmentally friendly power source for our homes and businesses. The challenge is coming up with a design that is cost effective, reliable and easily installed. Governments around the world are throwing in extra incentives and providing funding to the research and development of this futuristic and forward thinking movement.

It appears one company has gotten a good foothold on the green energy technology that the world craves. Bloom Energy has been working on a fuel cell that is powered by a combination of renewable energy sources for the past nine years. Their hard work was showcased on Wednesday to a large group of politicians, press and a other interested parties.

The fuel cell is about the size of a small vehicle and is capable of producing 100 kilowatts of energy or enough to power approximately 100 homes or one business. The Bloom Box does not rely solely on wind or solar energy. It is capable of providing the same output of power constantly unlike other alternative energy sources.

The Bloom Box comes with a hefty price tag of 700,000 dollars per unit. The technology is currently unavailable to the public but is being used by a number of big businesses including Wal-Mart and eBay. The companies using the Bloom Box are happy with the technology thus far. Bloom Energy is marketing the Bloom Box to large commercial businesses only for the time being. bloom-box-future-alternative-energy

  1. That is stupid. you are still generating CO2 green house gases crep.

  2. Wendy soo,

If you do some research, there are other articles out there that talk about how it recycles that CO2, using it for another reaction to lessen the emissions.

Sure not all the bugs are worked out, most likely, but with all the secrecy around how it works, and so forth, i would wait to make a decision on whether or not it’s “stupid.”
