Jenny McCarthy says non-traditional treatments cured her son’s autism
Actress, comedienne and former Playboy Playmate Jenny McCarthy claims she has been able to cure her son’s autism through a series of unusual and experimental treatments. McCarthy’s seven-year-old son Evan was diagnosed with “autistic disorder” and McCarthy has blamed the infant vaccination for measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) for his autism.
McCarthy has become a vocal advocate for parents of special needs children and even founded an early-intervention program in California to help autistic children. She has also written three best-selling books about autism and her own story as a mother of an autistic child.
McCarthy’s claims that healing for her son’s autism came about through the use of a variety of unusual treatments although some experts have stated that Evan may have had something other than autism. The list of treatments McCarthy tried is certainly thought-provoking: switching to a gluten-free and casein-free diet, Applied Behavior Analysis therapy, chelation therapy, hyperbaric oxygen chambers, aromatherapies, electromagnets, multivitamins and B-12 shots, prescription drugs and even spoons rubbed on his body.
According to McCarthy, these treatments helped to cure Evan from his autism. She is vocal about her beliefs regarding non-traditional treatments and vaccinations and continues to work as an advocate and public voice for autism. 
Mothers of autistic kids deserve some kind of special place in the world. Jenny too. Jenny did right by her son by trying “just about everything” to cure him and amazingly what she tried actually worked. The thing people don’t realize when they look at these parents “crazy remedies” is that there ARE NO REMEDIES that work instead. So of course you have to try different things. I am not surprised she is going to spread the word and tell her story about what actually seemed to work for her son. I can’t imagine otherwise. After going through the pain of an autism diagnosis, of course you would want to help anyone else in that situation.
I too believe that many cases of autism are caused by environmental factors such as too many vaccines given too early in life. The brain is still developing rapidly over those months and is quite vulnerable. Injecting a bunch of nasty chemicals into a baby’s body, well, seems like it could certainly cause trouble, especially when some of those chemicals are *known* neurotoxins.
When it came time to vaccinate my first baby, I did extensive research into “whether or not vaccines are safe.” I looked and looked and looked for studies that compared outcomes for kids who underwent vaccinations vs those that didn’t. I felt like this was the only kind of study that could convince me either way of their safety. But unfortunately no such study exists. Why? Ask the vaccine manufacturers. They’re the ones designing “all these studies” that supposedly prove vaccines are safe. Aye. The only thing I ever found that seemed to compare vax’d to unvax’d kids was from Jenny McCarthy herself – or her organization. They did a survey of parents on the topic and found a correlation between vaccines and autism (and ADHD and Asthma too) Their survey was no “study” but it was a starting point from which other studies should be launched to see if the findings of the survey were correct…
I never cared for Jenny McCarthy as the loud mouth sexy comedien…but I admire her as a mother. She is doing the right thing by people. I wish she didn’t get so much slack for it. No good deed goes unpunished, so they say…

They say that it is genetic with some environmental trigger. Don’t believe it. The environmental trigger is the only thing that is relevant. The earlier you detoxify the less the damage. That is what they mean by early intervention….Early detoxification
It really is difficult. No parent willing to try anything to give their children the best chances should be insulted and ridiculed for it. Temple Grandin’s mother worked very hard teaching her to talk in a time when the general thought was that the child should be institutionalized. What if temple’s mother had taken that advice? Where would the cows be now?
if you ask a “biomed” mom why these therapies work, some of us might go into the whole brain-gut explaination. The lot of us really are fairly well educated. We know more about body processes than, believe me, we ever wanted to. But, I can’t help but think, like cancer patients who make miraculous recoveries, hope plays a large part in our successes. Hope is ours. We will not give it up. It is strong, and no troll negativity can break it. As long as we have it, we will seek out all worldly, and some other-worldly, ways to treat our children’s maladies. We will never give it up and let them suffer. Every kid deserves a mom like us.
I wonder why Time didn’t mention the hundreds of other kids before Jenny who also recovered. HEck, they have even made a movie about it with a bunch of recovered kids:

Nut job. People, get your kids vaccinated. Be logical. Vaccinations have been around a long time. The explosion of autism is relatively recent. Please explore the idea that the increase in autism has more to do with contaminated soil underneath and adjacent to your homes.
