Sparklehorse’s Mark Linkous Dead

Sunday, 07 Mar 2010

Singer, songwriter, and musician Mark Linkous took his own life yesterday. He was best known for his role as leader of Sparklehorse. The details are unknown and the circumstances of his death were not released to the public, however, a publicist for Linkous has confirmed that Mark Linkous did in fact commit suicide. This confirmation was released through Rolling Stone Magazine and a statement from the Linkous family reads in part, “It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and family member, Mark Linkous, took his own life today.”

While the circumstances of Mark Linkous’ death were not publicly released he did have a history of substance abuse, including alcohol and drugs. Linkous overdosed during a London Sparklehorse tour in 1996, leaving him wheelchair bound for several months during his recovery.

Whatever the cause of his death, Mark Linkous will surely be remembered, like most musicians, for his vast musical contributions. Mark Linkous has been active in the music business since the early 80s when he co founded his first group Dancing Hoods. Mark Linkous has released multiple albums under the Sparklehorse name and has worked with artists such as Radiohead and Danger Mouse. sparklehorse-mark-linkous-commits-suicide
