Big 12 Tournament is heating up

Thursday, 11 Mar 2010

Every year, the Big 12 men’s basketball conference tournament is one of the most competitive tournaments in the country. With four teams ranked in the top 25, it appears that 2010 will be no different than in years past.

The first round of the tournament was headlined by last seeded Nebraska knocking off 5th seeded Missouri by a score of 75-60. Nebraska will now face the Texas A&M Aggies on Thursday. The Aggies will prove to be a formidable opponent for Nebraska as they finished the regular season with a record of 22 and 8 and are ranked #23 nationally.

Going forward, the Kansas Jayhawks are favored to win the tournament and gain the automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. The Jayhawks are the number one team in both the conference and the country. They are led by two of the nation’s best players in Sherron Collins and Cole Aldridge.

While the Jayhawks appear to be the favorite, they sill have to get by the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Thursday. If the Jayhawks win on Thursday and Friday they will play in the conference championship game on Saturday where they are expected to play their interstate rival, the Kansas State Wildcats. big-12-tournament-2010
