Sony’s Long Awaited PlayStation Move Motion Controller Announced

Thursday, 11 Mar 2010

At the 2010 Games Developer Conference Sony finally announced the name of its long awaited motion controller, the PlayStation Move. Although it will not ship till this Fall, it promises to change the marketplace for motion gaming. Sony is looking to move into the market created by the Nintendo Wii, but suggests it will compete on the precision its new controller offers. Staying economical, starter packages including a game will be under $100.

At first glance, the PlayStation Move appears as a colorful microphone, but it will offer precision control of your ingame sword, shield, gun, bat, or whatever else Sony or its partners may imagine. It will work in conjunction with a subcontroller and the PlayStation Eye. One title already promising support for the PlayStation Move is SOCOM 4, Zipper Interactive’s latest first person shooter. A motion controller would not even be considered for this type of game without providing almost pin-point accuracy.

Sony is trying to get a head start on Microsoft, which will be releasing its motion controller later this year as well, named Project Natal for the moment. Both of these will be the evolution of the popular motion gaming industry, hoping to draw in both experienced gamers as well as the new comers.playstation-move-motion-controller-announced
