Ford to unveils Police Interceptor

Friday, 12 Mar 2010

The Ford Motor Company unveiled this week what they consider to be the “ultimate cop car.” The new police car, which is thus far being called the “Police Interceptor,” is said to have many benefits over the previous cop car models that Ford had developed. In the past, many of Ford’s police vehicles had been based off of the Crown Victoria.

The new Ford Police Interceptor is based on the same model as the Ford Taurus and will far outperform the Crown Victoria. The new car will come with two engine options, which are a V6 engine and another engine with an eco-boost. Both of the engines are expected to get up to 25% better fuel efficiency than the Crown Victoria models. The Ford Police Interceptor is also expected to have better acceleration than the older model. The normal V6 engine will get 263 horsepower while the eco-boost engine will get an impressive 365 horsepower and 350 pound feet of torque.

Last year, Ford sold somewhere between 40,000 and 50,000 police vehicles, which accounted for 75% of the market share. With the new Police Interceptor, Ford expects to maintain their marketshare.

The new police car will be produced out of Chicago. ford-unveils-police-interceptor-2010
