Eye-Fi X2—Combining Wi-Fi Speed With An Unlimited Memory
Tuesday Eye-Fi announced the release of it’s new X-2 series of wireless memory cards. These are memory expansion cards that have wi-fi internet capability. The wireless capability allows for the wireless transfer of files to an internet based storage or even a home computer without the using a card reader or any other type of technology.
In January of this year they announced the Pro X2 at the CES conference and now are adding to the line with the Connect X2 and the Explore X2 cards. All devices operate as a normal HDSC device, but have the added feature of wireless, with the full capacity of an 802.11n wi-fi device. The memory capacities of the Pro X2 and Explore X2 are 8GB while the physical memory of the Connect X2 is 4GB.
According to the company though, memory shouldn’t be a problem. All these cards have an endless memory mode. This mode will delete files that have already been uploaded to the internet or another location to make space for new files or photos. The Explore X2 and Pro X2 cards have geotagging capabilities, but the Pro X2 is the only model that supports ad-hoc connections to a computer and will upload RAW format images.
These devices are available at the company’s website at a price ranging from about $50.00 up to $150.00, with the distribution later spreading to Amazon, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, and Office Depot in the coming months.

very interesting. I only hope the file copy confirmation protocols are pretty rock solid before it deletes any data on the cards own physical memory partition… I’d hate to lose data because of a bad transfer.
