Google Does Their Part to Prevent Suicide Attempts
People of all ages, and all walks of life, rely on Google every day as their main source for information. Google is also demonstrating their awareness that with this power comes responsibility.
Recognizing the increasing number of people searching for terms such as “Ways to Commit Suicide,” Google is stepping in with precautionary measures to prevent their users from harm. Whenever a suicide related term is searched, Google will step in with a pop up from the U. S. National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, displaying their phone number 1-800-273-8255 for quick help.
This may seem as an infringement on Google’s commitment to allowing free access to the public for roaming the internet at will. In reality it shows concern, respect, and, an even deeper, commitment on Google’s part to aid and inform their public with the quick assistance they can receive.
This is not the first time that Google has made this sort of commitment to their public. A hot line was set up earlier in the year to give information on poison emergencies.
Because Google feels that this information will be of utmost help to possible suicides, they are now looking at other emergency situations they can readily prevent or reduce.
