Senior citizen mobsters still planning heists

Saturday, 10 Apr 2010

Everyone remembers watching mob movies and hearing about famous heists and crimes that mobsters committed during their heydays. These same men who once were higher up in the criminal food chain are now senior citizens. Two mobsters named Joseph “Jerry” “The Monk” Scalise and Arthur “The Genius” Rachel who are seventy three and seventy one years old just could not shake their criminal ways. The two men allegedly tried to break into Angelo “The Hook” LaPietra’s home because they thought that the home had a lot of money and valuable items. LaPietra is deceased but a relative of his still resides at the home.

The men were also charged with planning to rob the La Grange bank because they had been watching the bank for a while and were learning about when the armored car pickups were done weekly. They did have another accomplice named Robert “Bobby” Pullia, who is sixty nine years old. Scalise and Rachel were under surveillance which led to them getting caught. In 1980, the two men stole a forty five carat diamond from a jewelry store in London. This theft made national headlines and has kept these men’s names on the FBI’s radar. Can mobsters go straight? Well, these two men teach us that old habits die hard and these men cannot shake their criminal mindsets. senior-citizen-mobsters-still-planning-heists
