Dixie Carter, Star of Designing Women Dies Suddenly
Many people were stunned to learn that Dixie Carter, who played the volatile, opinionated, intelligent and feisty Julia Sugarbaker on the hit sitcom Designing Women, had died suddenly. Carter loved playing opinionated southern women roles. Her rants on Designing women about female discrimination and race are still uttered today.
Dixie Carter was born on May 25, 1939 and died on Saturday April 10, 2010 of unknown causes. She was seventy years old at the time of her death. Dixie Carter was married to Hal Holbrook for many years. He had even played her boyfriend Reese Watson for five seasons of Designing Women. He has stated that his family is stunned by the death of his wife but still a cause of death has not been released and may not be. The family wants to grieve in private. It is a sad day for many fans of Dixie Carter. She was an exceptional actress and never bored an audience. It is sad that so many great actors and actresses have died in the last few years. Hopefully, her family can take some solace in knowing that her fans loved her and will remember her when they watch re-runs of the shows that she was on.
