Having Enough Omega-6 Fatty Acid Could Combat Dermatitis
Do you suffer from dermatitis? Many people suffer from skin issues and having healthy skin is essential to avoid contracting dermatitis. Dermatitis is a skin condition that causes the skin to become red, itchy and flaky. Many people think that skin issues are caused by diet or lifestyle issues alone. Treating dermatitis can be difficult because the skin can become irritated by virtually anything.
Scientists from the University of Illinois did research on mice during their research they found that mice need arachidonic acid or else they would contract dermatitis. The mice when not given arachidonic acid were scratching at their skin and as a result bleeding sores on their bodies developed.
The scientists decided to feed the mice arachidonic acid in their food and they found that the mice stopped itching after a short period of time. The problem before this was that the mice could not convert the linoetic acid into the necessary amount of arachidonic acid. Without this, the immune functions decrease and inflammation is caused. Hopefully, this discovery will help scientists come up with a way to help human beings be able to combat dermatitis in the future. If humans could be given a similar treatment then skin inflammation could decrease and patients would get some relief.
