Laughter is the best medicine
For years, laughter has always been considered the best medicine for curing small ailments. While the popular phrase was thought to only improve a person’s mental state of mind, it may actually have a positive physical effect as well.
A recent research study, which studied 14 healthy volunteers, found that laughing has numerous effects a person’s physical well being. While laughter should not be used as the primary source of improving these ailments, those who laugh frequently have been shown to have the ability to lower both their blood pressure as well as their levels of bad cholesterol.
These were not the only effects of laughing that researchers found. Laughing was also found to reduce a person’s level of stress, relax a person’s mood, and even increase their appetite. The results of the study were concluded after the volunteers watched two different movie scenes. One of the scenes was quite distressing while the other scene was a comedic scene.
One of the leader’s of the study concluded that laughter does in fact have several positive impacts on our body. The doctor stated that laughter actually has many of the same effects that routine exercise has.
This is not the first time that laughter has been considered a benefit for the human body. Beyond the positive effects of laughter that were mentioned in the study, laughter has also been shown to help the body burn calories, which helps a person lose or maintain weight and lead a healthier and more pleasant lifestyle.
