Police Find Person Who Sold the New iPhone to Gizmodo
iPhone lovers can now breathe a huge sigh of relief because authorities have finally uncovered who gave a prototype of the new iPhone 4G to Gizmodo.
Gizmodo, a tech blog, had allegedly bought the phone prototype for five thousand dollars. The only reason that authorities knew that this had happened is because an engineer from Apple named Gray Powell had left behind the device at a bar n March 18, 2010. Subsequently, Gizmodo published an article on the new iPhone, even though no one else had viewed it. The new iPhone does not hit the market until this summer.
Gray Powell and lawyers from Apple talked to the district attorney late last week and wanted a theft investigation to be opened. Last Friday, Rapid Enforcement and Allied Computer Team officers went to the home of the Gizmodo article writer and recovered computers and other technological devices. The information seized helped officers build a case and track down the person who took the device from the bar. Some people are saying that the journalist’s computers and belongings should not have been seized because there are laws that protect journalists in California from such action. Right now, the district attorney has stated that the investigation is suspended and no one has been charged with any crimes yet.
