Marijuana Legalization Supporters Defend Their Rights
There was a national effort on Saturday to establish or preserve the rights of people using medical marijuana. At present there are 14 states that allow medical usage of marijuana. Montana legalized medical marijuana in November 2004 with a 62% vote of approval.
In Montana there were rallies in Great Falls, Bozeman, and Missoula defending against the zoning laws that are presently on the table in the municipalities there. Individual cities are attempting to limit the areas in which supply shops can be opened and operated.
Supporters of medical marijuana and even the Great Falls event organizer, Becky Clark-Darko, believe that the Montana laws should change to require that suppliers should be certified. Becky hopes for national acceptance so her husband won’t have to worry anymore, he has a diabetic condition.
Non-supporters would tell you that if we legalize marijuana, why not heroin or cocaine. They would also say that it is more dangerous than tobacco and that the federal government still sees marijuana as a schedule I narcotic just like cocaine and heroine so why shouldn’t we decriminalize them all…and yes, they were in attendance at the rallies also.
The rally in Great Falls had a multitude of signs, some that read “Don’t Panic It’s Organic” and another that read “I’m a patient, not a criminal.” Some in attendance at the rallies were for the all out decriminalization while others believe that it should only be allowed for certain chronic medical conditions, but all agree it’s needed for at least the patients.

Prisoners being held for the peaceful, non-violent possession, sale, transport or cultivation of cannabis hemp must be released immediately. Money and property seized must be returned. Criminal records must be wiped clean, amnesty granted and some sort of reparations paid for time served. These cannabis prisoners are the real victims of this monstrous crime against humanity called the “War on Drugs.”
The United States is supposed to be a free country, yet those who choose to smoke this mostly harmless drug are penalized. An American can go out and drink themself to death, but they cannot freely use a drug which is less toxic and less prone to making one out of control than alcohol. I say this is not only unfair, but also un-American!
The police, prosecutors and prison guards should not be in charge of which herbal therapies people may use to treat their personal health problems.
Federal Judge Francis Young in 1988 called “one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man.”
Agreed.
bad laws effect us all its true cannabis never killed anyone, gangs kill for the money…legalize it and stop the violence
“The War on Drugs is the most destructive and dysfunctional social policy in America since Slavery”
America has more people in prison as a percentage of population then any country on EARTH. We should be storming our State Capitols and Washington DC with Tar and Pitch Forks. We have become a Police State over the failed War on Drugs. The War on Drugs is a War on our own citizens and freedoms. It is time we declare a war on our politicians and stop this madness
Cocaine is a schedule 2 substance, and available at most hospitals for medical use.
Methamphetamine is also schedule 2 and available for prescription under the brand name Desoxyn.
Heroin is schedule 1, but Fentanyl is schedule 2. Fentanyl is touted as 50 times stronger than heroin.
But doctors can’t prescribe cannabis despite all the evidence of its medical qualities. Oh yeah, that makes a lotta sense. Sheesh.
we need to skip this whole medicinal marijuana campaign and just legalize marijuana already. it is a perfectly safe drug, far less dangerous for your health than alcohol, cigarettes, caffeine, or any over-the-counter and prescription medication. it is FAR less intoxicating than alcohol, its effects kick in much sooner so you can regulate how high you get much more easily, as opposed to drinking alcohol where if you drink too much, you wont realize it until it’s WAY too late. once that happens (legalization) everyone will see that the rate of usage on minors will drop, and usage of hardcore drugs will very likely drop as well.
and lets face it. is $42,000,000 REALLY worth preventing the “health risks” associated with marijuana, especially when those numbers could be turned around into profits?, and not to mention those who are going to smoke pot, are ALREADY DOING IT
