Typing on the iPad: A personal perspective a working professional

Wednesday, 05 May 2010

The iPad is truly one of the greatest inventions from Apple, despite what naysayers think. As a lawyer, I have found the iPad to be incredibly helpful as I draft briefs on the run using the keyword processor. The iPad does not have a physical “keyboard,” but rather a touch screen keyboard that very much resembles the iPhone or iTouch.

Running late a few days ago, I was forced to type an entire brief of a legal case in less than 10 minutes. Typically, I have my laptop with me to do typing. However, that day I only had the iPad with me, so I was forced to use it. As I started typing, I realized how easy it truly was. The makers of the iPad have designed it to be essentially a laptop “on the go.” The touch screen keyboard was very sensitive, and my fingers fit the keys in a perfect manner. As I continued typing my brief, my stress levels decreased instantly as I realized how much the iPad functions like a laptop.

What is great about typing on the iPad are the options you have. If you want to just look up a website and want the vertical view, you only need to use the vertical keyboard. On the other hand, if you want to do some serious typing (as I did with my brief a few days ago), then you can use the horizontal keyboard and it works just fine. Some people have complained the keyboard is too small for their fingers, but I have not found that to be true. Perhaps as a woman, my fingers are smaller than average and that makes it easier to type though.

Overall, I have found typing on the iPad to be easy and convenient in my profession as an “on the go” attorney. I highly recommend the iPad, especially for the touch screen keyboard.typing-on-the-ipad-a-personal-perspective
