Yahoo Purchases Article Company Associated Content
Yahoo has entered into a deal that will hopefully generate more traffic to their search engine and websites. The deal is expected to be finalized at the end of the third quarter of this year. Yahoo will be purchasing the company known as Associated Content. Associated Content pays some 380,000 different freelance authors to write content on thousands of diverse subjects. The company claims they get more than 16 million unique user visits every month. The site also claims to produce more than 50,000 different pieces of data in the form of articles, audio and video clips and images every month.
The authors are paid very little for the articles while generating a great deal of traffic to the highlighted sites. Many online news agencies use the low cost articles as a way to increase traffic to their sites without paying out millions of dollars in advertising fees. The articles cover a wide variety of subjects, especially those that are popular on any given day. Once a user clicks on a headline, they will be shown a variety of ads by companies that have paid Yahoo to be included in their searches.
Yahoo’s main goal is to redirect hits from the internet giant Google. If Yahoo can offer their clients more visits and more sales, more companies will throw their advertising dollars at them instead of their competitors like AOL and Google. The actual dollar amount of the deal has not been disclosed, but it is estimated to be around 100 million dollars.
