Dell’s Streak Handheld Computer Available in June

Tuesday, 25 May 2010

Dell is jumping into the tablet PC market. The company will release its version this summer in the US. People in the UK can get their hands on the computer as early as June.  The product is being called the Streak. The company is the third largest computer manufacturer. The Streak was unveiled in January at the Consumer Electronics Show and details about its specs have been trickling out in anticipation of its release.

The Streak will run Google’s Android OS on a 5 inch screen. This gives this handheld computer the ability to run Flash programs. This feature sets the Streak apart from Apple’s iPad. Apple has limited themselves by not working with the Adobe Flash system that many online videos run on.

Some of the features of the Streak include a 5 megapixel camera with flash, Qualcomm’s 1-GHz Snapdragon processor, 2 GB of internal storage and the capacity for 32 GB external storage. Another exciting feature is the front facing camera that will make video chat possible.  The handheld computer is also equipped with Bluetooth,  Wi-Fi and will operate on a 3G network. The Streak is bigger than an iPhone but smaller than an iPad, appealing to the masses who want the best of both worlds.

The initial product release will be formatted with the older version of the Android OS but will get an over-the-air upgrade later in the year to the highly anticipated Froyo OS. The company has not released pricing details yet, but they are expected to be announced before the product goes on sale. dell-streak
