Asustek’s Eee Pad to Take on Apple’s iPad
Asustek has announced it will be joining the tablet race that was started by Apple’s popular iPad. Asustek’s tablet will be called the Eee Pad. It will operate with either Intel Corp or ARM Holding’s chips. It will also be compatible with the Microsoft operating system.
The Eee Pad will feature a USB port and a camera. It will also be able to display Adobe flash for users to get the full web experience from the tablet. Chairman Jonney Shih stated, “We looked at how we could best address the needs of users from all walks of life, and I believe this is the product.”
Asustek did not reveal any pricing figures or even a potential release date for the product. Asustek also revealed they will be working alongside Microsoft and Intel to release their own version of an online app store. Shih hopes to join other tech companies like Nokia to create software that will heavily compete with their main competitor Apple.
There was no release date given for the app store by Asustek. Similar app stores include Apple’s app store offering over 200,000 applications for download. The only other competing app store is Google’s Android that offers users only 38,000. There’s no word on how large a collection Asustek plans to offer, or if the apps will be bigger.
The new tablet pads will come in a 10 inch and 12 inch version. Other important features will include an integrated webcam, HDMI, a SD card reader, and an impressive 10 hour battery life.
