Quit Facebook Day: Are you ready?

Monday, 31 May 2010

Most people do not realize this, but today is “Quit Face book Day”. Today was declared QFD by two disillusioned former Face book users.

Matthew Milan and Joseph Dee are the two previous Face book addicts that decided to quit their accounts and get on with their lives. These two declare the lack of privacy and the not so honest ways of Face book as their reasons for quitting. Matthew and Joseph also contend that Face book makes it’s money by sharing information with outside partners. Any and all information is shared and the two guys are not happy that Face book is not more open about its sharing policies.

Face book is a quick and easy way to meet people, share conversations and opinions. Some people are just casual acquaintances and others you might actually have the chance to meet. Some people even share many pictures and some are not discreet in their picture sharing. Although Face book provides many wonderful ideas and applications, we have to remember that there are also unsavory people on FB that are out to do no good. There are child molesters from all over the world just waiting to pick a victim, murderers waiting for an opportunity and rapists just hoping to attack.

The people that are willing to delete their accounts on FB are minimal (almost 30,0000) compared to the millions of users around the world. But perhaps this “Quit Face book Day” will at least make people more aware, that contacts aren’t always what they seem and Face book is not all that it appears to be; and perhaps users will be more careful with the information that is put out on FB for the whole world to see. quit-facebook-day-2010
