US House Committee Not Happy With J&J Participation Into Recall Investigation
Johnson & Johnson came under intense scrutiny after one of its companies was cited for numerous violations in the manufacturing of several children’s over-the-counter medications. The company claimed they were cooperating with a federal investigation and were taking their own action to correct the numerous problems at the temporarily closed plant. A new report released today reveals that J&J has not followed through with their promises.
Jenny Rosenburg speaking on behalf of the US House Committee claims the panel is “deeply concerned about the response and cooperation with the investigation.” US representative Edolphus Towns claims the company is providing misinformation and employing a variety of delaying tactics into the investigation. He claims J&J has provided conflicting information that raises more concerns about previously made statements. Towns went on to say that the company’s actions may result in the committee taking more aggressive action against them.
J&J denies the allegations and once again claims they are cooperating fully and have provided more than 20,000 pages of documentation. The investigation will decide if J&J responded appropriately to known issues with the McNeil Consumer Healthcare factory. The company was forced to make four recalls in a matter of seven months due to a variety of safety concerns. Another recall involving the McNeil facility is also under investigation. More than 800 cases of adverse side effects are being linked to the recalls as well as at least 30 deaths. Those cases are being investigated further to determine a definitive link between the recalled medicines and the issues reported.
