Woman discovered hoarding 28 cats in Motel 6 room
After responding to complainants of a strong smell of urine emanating from a room In a Motel 6, authorities found a shocking surprise when they entered the room. The small room was home to 28 cats. Tarps covered the floors. The room was covered in the filth and droppings of the 28 cats. The real horror was in the room’s small freezer where authorities found 4 frozen dead kittens. The kittens appear to have died shortly after birth.
The 53 year-old occupant of the room was no stranger to authorities who had been to the room in the past citing the woman for violating a city ordinance which limits people to owning no more than four cats or four dogs older than 6 months.
The hotel staff who were surely aware of what was happening in the room initially tried to prevent authorities from entering the room. Authorities were forced to return with a search warrant. The woman identified as Susan Kohler is scheduled for a June 25th hearing. She is facing numerous charges including animal abuse, possession of too many animals, no vaccinations, and unsanitary living conditions.
Motel 6 has refused to comment on the story. This is very unpleasant news for the Motel chain currently in a campaign to improve its bottom of the rung reputation.
Hoarding of this type has taken the spotlight thanks to recent hit TV shows such as A&E’s hoarders. Cat hoarding is a horrible problem causing health issues for both humans and the animals themselves.
